Nate, if you review my post, nowhere in it do I suggest that criticism of Israel is unwarranted or, in the Goldstone report, simply "made up." Nor, by the way, would a number of identifiable IDF violations of the rules of war constitute, as you put it, "carte blanche to behave badly." Let's be accurate and careful in our representations and expression, shall we? It doesn't matter if an investigation delivers findings that you prefer; if the investigation is prejudicial in its constituent membership, in its expressed charge, and in its procedures, it is unjust and not to be respected. You'll find, in different language, that we have similar requirements in American jurisprudence.

As to the civilian death toll, I'll direct you, for ease, to the Wikipedia overview, which offers a sense of the divergent counts, and the sources, with whatever prejudicial motives one wishes to presume, for those counts. Many sources provide a dramatically lower civilian toll than the one you choose to accept and repeat. It is all, in the end, isn't it, a question of which organizations one wishes to find credible and on what intellectual grounds one judges their procedures? I'll let you account for your own choices.

The Goldstone report is biased and intellectually dishonest to boot.

Here's a news flash. You don't beat evil and, Hamas IS evil, by playing by the rules.

You don't bring a knife to a gun fight. If you do, you'll lose, badly. It's only in the movies where the bad guys always in the critical moment and, oh so conveniently, miss when they shoot at the hero.

Yes, some may say at your funeral, that you were 'principled' and ALL that will get you is an early grave. And ensure that the bad guys continue their reign of terror.

When human beings engage in barbarism, as Palestinian and Islamic terrorist do, they abrogate their own humanity and give up all claim to a humane response, for by their own actions they deny those rights to their victims.

ANY society under attack by terrorists whose government does not take the fight to terrorists, with ALL the weapons at its disposal is, in essence failing in its obligations to its people and by that failure have declared its own unfitness to serve the public.

So, you think the Goldstone report is a complete fallacy? Do you really think the investigators made all that stuff up? I don't. If Israeli soldiers are committing grievous acts against the Palestinians, they need to stop. It doesn't really matter how terrible the other regimes in the region are when we're trying to figure out what Israel needs to do. Just because they're horrible doesn't give Israel carte blanche to behave badly, right? I'm proud that the Israeli Army went to great lengths to protect civilians -- still, more than 1,000 died. It is intellectually dishonest to insist that criticism of Israel in unwarranted because its enemies also behaved badly. Israel should be above committing human rights violations because it is above behaving like that. You know, like the United States used to be.
